You mean your co-worker makes $5 an hour MORE than you do.
Some people don't have any respect for the best workers they have.
I will never understand that.
Just march up to him and say, I'm very upset to learn that so and so is paid $5 more than I am. Why? When I am the one who trained them. Is there a reason that they are paid more than I? I am trusting that you are a good worker who pulls their weight and gives 150 percent when I say this now.
Sometimes I think bosses keep their best workers down. I think it's because they know that if you "move up" you might likely be able to fill THEIR shoes very easily. Now I say this based on working in the public sector, where no one "owns" the business so it's all just a matter of budgeting but bosses are always wary of sub-ordinates with ambition and who can do any job well.
I remember grieving to the union about my pay. For 10 years I worked at a lesser category than everyone else in 14 other district offices doing exactly what they did and more. I won the grievance but they were so pissed off at me for grieving (hey they had 3 stages they could have settled and gave it to me but no it had to go to lawyers etc and cost $30,000 to them to pay them for a $5,000 yearly increase) so when I won they simply said they didn't need my job anymore. They were more than happy to fork out $30,000 to stop me, and I didn't even see a penny of any raise. I never got retro either. I just got shipped to another district so it wasn't any skin off my nose but what a bunch of pricks. It was just a matter of principle to them and they had to show me who was "boss".
Nice after 20 years and I practically re-organized that whole place and computerized it for them too and they all got a big pat on the back and promotions for it. THAT part was ok though.
People can be major assholes. So you can take it up and remember if you do it might come back to bite you in the a@@ but in the end I don't think you would be happy to work for people who don't appreciate you anyhow.

The answer is you DO NOT. I had the same issue with some of my employees. What each individual person makes is confidential information. Regardless of who train who, and who has been there longer then who. If you were to go to your boss with the notion of telling them that your co-worker makes more than you, and you want the difference or whatever, there is a great possibility that you could be fired. How you found out about this info is irrelavent. If I were you I would start looking for another job with a company that cares about the fairness to there employees.

Do not let your boss know that you're aware that yor co-worker makes $5.00 more an hour then you. Your co-worker never should've disclosed that to you and that could get him/her in trouble which can create friction in the workplace. Sale yourself to your boss on why you deserve more $$$.

I would think your boss is already aware of that fact. He might inquire as to how you found out and then you might be out of a job, if you came about this information in a questionable manner. You should never discuss your salary with a Co worker.

you don't cause you aren't supposed to know her salary.
Think of all the reasons you deserve more money (punctuality, you train, you've been there awhile, whatever) then go to your boss and sale yourself and say, "I feel that I have proven myself in these ways and that I might be entitled to a raise. What do you think?"
Be aware, you may be training someone to take your place if you aren't meeting your boss' expectations.
