Reading. I believe if you read and read and read you increase your natural IQ and mental abilities in that area.Knowledge is Power!
Also, by doing new things to increase confidence. Take up a sport you can excel in to allow you the 'stroke' you don't always get with academic pursuits. Running, for example, is an undertaking, and a goal to let's say run 5 miles (eventually) a day.
Takes very little new gear and at a nominal cost. You don't need a partner. You can do it anywhere any time, any weather. It's very good for your mind and your body!
You can succeed at it and know that no matter what else happens that day, you had a good run. Or whatever activity you may choose.
ps..remember: everyone has an area he or she does well in. Your task is to find that thing, whether it be academic, sports, theater, technical skills, whatever. You'll find it, so don't sweat the IQ thing. Maybe you just test poorly.

Are you trying to improve your general knowledge or your IQ score? If it is just the test score, try taking it again, because things like test anxiety, stress and sleepiness can effect your test score. I you are trying to improve your general knowledge these are some suggestions: read classic novels (such as Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and Great Expectations-these will also expand your vocabulary), read the paper (at least once a week-and watch the national news daily), go to local museums, take classes at a junior college or adult school or find a subject that you are interested in and study it on your own.

According to the theory of IQ, it is a measure of your inate intelligence, so you cannot make it better.

Now, I know that you can study the types of questions asked on an IQ test and give yourself a better IQ score, but that won't give you more inate intelligence.

The best thing is to just study hard and maximize your potential and not worry about what some stupid test says your IQ is.

Do not worry yourself about your IQ... I know many people with HIGH IQ's and they can't even balance a checkbook.

Stick to learning about real life rather than answering some random questions some moron created to measure what he or she thought was intelligence.

Learn to manage your money.

Be a GOOD person.

Do what you enjoy for a career and be happy.

... and life will be good.

My mate Chalky down at the Horse and Ferret pub isn't very bright. He decided to build his I.Q. by having a lot of fish oil. So he took six cod liver capsules every day, scoffed loads of fish and tried reading war and peace. He never got past the first chapter - he couldn't, every cat in the neighborhood decided he smelt just like dinner - he had to lock him self in his house for a week! Silly sod!
