Conclusion: Thank you everyone for answering my question. I asked the same question to both sides: Greeks and Turks, but not because I wanted to create a fight between them. I did it because I wanted to compare the answers. I'm neither Greek nor Turkish, but I have some experience with both of them and over the years I have noticed that Turks seem to have much friendlier feelings towards Greeks, than the other way around. Most Greeks I know have some kind of hatred towards Turks and that seems to be their national thing, whereas most Turks think they should be friends. I wanted to check if that is true and here are the results: Almost all Turks answered in a very friendly way, some of them were mad at me for even asking this question. On the other hand, many Greeks were reserved and some of them answered with some kind of hostility. I know there were many problems between Greece and Turkey in the past and there still are, but you should blame politics of both countries, not people.

PS.: This question might be common on Yahoo, but I've never asked it before, this is my first time.

I have absolutely no hatred for Turks. But I'd rather deal with your conclusions than your question. I'm not sure what you read in these answers, but it's not what I read. In the question for Turks, the consensus was that Greeks are good people but are stuck in the past. In the question for Greeks, the consensus was that Turks are good people but their government is dangerous. There was no hatred (with 1 or 2 exceptions in each thread, and both of those had received a lot of thumbs down). Where, exactly, did you see the ill will, my friend?

By the way, please avoid asking these sorts of questions in a travel section. It's so silly.

Hate is such a huge feeling! I don't feel hatred for anyone and i am very happy with it. It is this kind of questions that provoke people into saying bad things. I would very much appreciate it if you and everyone else never post questions such as these. We don't feel hate, neither us the Greeks, nor the Turks for us. There are some minorities, like Spartan above, who feel bad but most of them are uneducated and one sided. We coexist with the Turks and whenever they needed our help in natural disasters we were the first to help. I believe this is answering your question. And for the guy who said about us teaching history and civilisation that it silly, maybe he should be checked by a doctor or he should return to school once more and study a bit harder.( Well the Greeks, we are easily offended if anyone says anything about our great history and that is one of our weaknesses that we truly love).

Fantastic answers! Wow! On both sides!

You could also ask, say, do the Portuguese hate the Spanish and do the Spanish hate the Portuguese, do the French hate the Germans and do the Germans hate the French and so forth.

The answer is only idiots hate. Another answer is there is Europe and Europe may somehow (despite all the incompetence in Brussels and Strasbourg) become bigger than the US sometime. Ouch!

Anyway, as a foreigner who lived in Athens, Greece, and who occasionally visited Turkey let me just add the following: the Turkish are very nice and don't seem like the kind of people to attack for no reason. Yes. And the Greeks (I do love Greece), with all their qualities, have one terrible fault as well - believing that all languages come from Greek, that everything cultural comes from Greece, that everything scientifical comes from Greece and that everyone else everywhere envies them . That's just silly really.

I agree with Takis above!

I have seen this question here many times!
I believe that there are good and bad people everywhere!
What I can not stand are 2 categories of people:the stupid people and the arrogants.
Well,if I meet someone arrogant and stupid from Turkey I am sure that I won't like him as if I will meet someone arrogant and stupid from Greece.
I know people from Turkey that are really nice and of course I know people from Greece that are really nice. So,who is better or worse?Noone, that has to do with the individuals. So,how can I hate someone just because he is Turk?

despite to what everyone says i believe there is not enough love between 2 nations.... someone asked if spanish people hate portuguese.... well..... i dont know ....... but ask british if they like french...or italians if they like swiss..... or even worst.... finish people and russians.... i am not using the verb hate....thats too heavy...but in the end those things seperating greeks from turks are enough to create a status of personna non gratta to each direction...i am not gonna say who's fault is.... but its existance is something non deniable...wars... ocupation.... fights about status quo in aegean sea
cyprus .... the desire of turkey to enter EU are only a small sample of what seperates 2 countries.... and something hard to be understood of many other europeans and especially citizens of USA.....2 nations....... 2 solid nations with different history and different religion... but same area to fit and share.... hard thing...
u wont find 1 average greek to say he hates turks.... besides u will find many of them travelling to our neighbors for vacations.. but on the other hand noone will say oh yes they are friends...
many years must pass for this possibilitty to become evidable..
And i will end my long and tiring answer( sorry eh?) saying that if politicians died tomorrow would be easier for people to find a way of co-existance rather than if politicians decide our way of standing on every matter
I am willing to discuss my opinion

To hate is to not accept. We have a very clear understanding of their culture and reasoning as it is very much like ours. In social life turks and greeks get along because there is little difference in what we enjoy to do. However, because there is always an unspoken competition between Turkey and Greece, politicall, we do not get along very well.

WORLD PEACE.

Question to the Turks: Do you hate Yunanis (Greeks) ?

2007-01-29 08:08:33 · answer #8 · answered by emiliosailez 6 · 4 0

Again this question either on the greek or the turkish site.No we dont hate them, we dont hate anyone. The others hate us, because of our story, because of our culture, and because they know which is the truth in history. And I dont speak about turks only(even if there aare exceptions, and nice people who really want the peace)I speak about all the nations..Because theatre art, letters, medicine, and sciences come from us...and because when we had civilisation the others were not existing...So...we dont hate anyone...Just ignore them...

Assimakis:"Lets hope Turkey will stabilize and become more democratic and their generals and politicians will not have as their top priority to invade Greece"

It goes exactly like that!!!When you are asking if we love Turks I take for granted that you are reffering to their politics!!!Right? So are you expecting from someone in here to tell you that we love them?

I don't hate Turks.
I grew up in Germany until the age of ten. I remember i used to have a Turkish friend and my mother exchanged recipes with Turkish women.
Lets hope Turkey will stabilize and become more democratic and their generals and politicians will not have as their top priority to invade Greece
