Additional or replacement? And if additional did you set the master/slave jumpers?

Your question is difficult to understand. Please rephrase the question. If the harddrive is faulty the most recommended solution is to replace the drive. However, you must ensure that the drive is properly connected, jumpers are properly set, and that your are using the proper boot disk, where necessary.

Rephrase the question and I may have a more direct answer for you.

New hard drives come with software. You have to keep the old one in place and jump the new one on in order to format the hard drive using the software. Once you format it, you can perform a clean install or, you can copy all the information from the old hard drive.
