First off, he's not going to hurt himself chewing on cardboard. In fact, the only thing he'd probably RATHER chew on is OTHER cardboard, like a toilet paper/paper towel roll, or paper itself - try crumbling up some newspaper. I suggest putting some other source of cardboard in his cage for the time being, and tomorrow or sometime when your mom is home go out and get him a plastic sleeping den like the igloo-shaped ones they sell at pet stores. That way he can chew on cardboard til his heart's content and not ruin his bedroom in the process! =)

Give him a piece of dry bread to chew on till your able to get some chew sticks and stuff for him. It is perfectly safe for him to chew on dried bread, my get that when I can't get down to the store to buy chew sticks right away. Don't give him any paper or cardboard as that is dangerous to them. You can give him a piece of an apple tree to chew on without the bark but don't try anything else as they can hurt the inside of their mouth and get what is call Lumps.
Hope this helps.

More importantly than a chew block, he needs hay. In the wild, they use forage to wear down their teeth, not wood (much like horses or cattle).

Wooden blocks work well. Just plain wood, though, no dyes.
