Of course it's possible. CD-Drive is a hardware. If you have a CD-drive installed in your system you can see it directly when looking at your case lol If you find the drive where you can place a cd that's the CD-Drive (CD-ROM, CD-RW, Combo, DVD-ROM or DVD-RW). So if you have this hardware and you get the message 'CD-drive was not found' you must first look in Control Panel >>> System >>> Hardware tab >>> Device Manager button >>> dubble click on DVD/CD-Rom Drives and if you see a device installed then you have it. And it means that your CD-ROM drive doesn't work properly. If you don't see any drive installed then check in the case if the cables are right connected. You must see a cable with 4 wires (Power) and a Ribbon cable (40 or 80 wires). If you cannot solve the problem yourself because you have not an expirience then try to contact with a technician.

You should be able to look at the PC and tell. And no CD drives SHOULD be standard but doesn't necessarily HAVE to be. Depends on who you are buying from. All new computers will definitely have at least a CD drive If you are buying used, then that's a different story altogether. Look at the front of your PC, if there is one then you will see it, it will have writing on it telling you weather it's a CD ROM, DVD ROM, CD-Rewritable, etc.... If the drive it there, then it could be that it was not properly installed or it was properly installed but the correct drivers have not been installed.

To check on this, right click on "my computer", choose "properties", click on the "hardware" tab, click on the "device manager" button, expand the "CD/DVD ROM" devices. If the drive is properly installed then the name of it will show up here. If the name shows up and there is a yellow question mark (?) next to it, it means that the system has a problem with the drivers. This can be rectified within this screen by right-clicking on the name of the device and choosing "update drivers" or you could choose "properties" and then click on the "trouble shoot" button. This will walk you through trying to pinpoint the problem.

If the CD drive shows up without the yellow question mark then right click on it and use the properties tab to do the trouble-shoot exercise.

Good luck.
