I started using rain water on my plants about two years ago. Now none of them are looking all that healthy. I live in the city, so I thought it would be better than tap water.

. You can just use tap water but run the water into a container and let it set for 24 hours before you water the plants . This lets the chlorine and other chemicals dissipate . On some of my 'sensitive ' plants I use distilled water Plants also need to be fertilized periodically. Hope this helps

It could be that the rain water is actually to acidic for them - might depend on where you live and types of industrial complexes around you. You might try changing to tap water - the chlorine levels should be low enough to not damage your plants.

Also, fertilize them every 3-4 weeks. A water soluble fertilizer should suffice for them.

You did not mention what kinds of plants you have. Different plants like differing amounts of water. However, since you have had them for several years, this might not be pertinent.

the reason people say that rain water is great for plants is because it's PH is about 7.4 (neutral). I would go back to tap water and see how they respond in a month... also fertilize them!!!

My aunt (in her 70's) swears cold tea is the best thing for in door plants, she fertilizes them as well, but never uses plain water on them, they are beautiful .

The city rain water is likely more acidic than the tapwater. Tapwater is just fine for your plants.

you may need to be feeding them, add a little fish fertilizer every so often and see how that works out, but use the rain water too.
