Hi,
I'm interested in the Early Years National Diploma/Certificate (equivalent to NVQ L3) and was just wondering if anyone else had undertook the course/knew some one that has. I would just like to know what the course consists of and if it is recognised as being a respected course?

Im looking at going into Primary School Teaching, but rather than taking A Levels thought i could do the course i mention above and then progress onto another course/degree equivalent.

Im a bit confused at the moment as to where i could go (in terms of courses) to get into teaching? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

:o)

P.S Sorry if my question sounds abit muddled and confused! lol

Hi, I'm doing that same course at the moment and I'm absouletly loving it. Its fun. Within the course you've got to do different things and they are:

ICT (But don't worry, its just the basic's nothing difficult),

Equality, Diversity and Rights (Nothing difficult again, just about the society and stuff),

Maths (Again, its not difficult, its just the basic's. Just addition and subtraction and stuff and NO formula's and stuff)

Then you have,

Observations (Here you learn to observe children)

Child care practice (This is about what you can and can't feed children according to their age and stuff)

Learning in the early years (Where you learn to work with children and what activites they like and should learn according to their age group)

And then you've got,

IOLP (Where its the time you just write what you learnt about in a file and that is it)

This might sound confusing, it did to me at the start but ever since I joined this course I'm loving it for sure.

U'll enjoy it and it is fun and oh I forgot to tell you that. U'll have college from monday to wednesday and then thursday and friday is where you go for your work placement. Where you work with kids to get expeirence)

Its really good fun.

I'd encourage you to join it.

Good luck.

I'm currently on the BTEC level 3 at the moment, its a lot of coursework. With my colleges course there are 9 units in the first year which means 3 bits of coursework for each unit, in the second year there are also nine units so again the same. You really have to keep on top of it or you will fall behind. If you want to teach reception or year 1, or 2 i think it would be great for you to do this course because it will teach you the curriculum's like foundation stage and birth to three matters, which will help a lot, in later teaching life when you are planning activities etc. Its definitely recognised as respected course its worth 3 a levels.
Hope this helps

BTEC is the right course to take if you want to follow onto teaching because it is more reconisesd by teachersand teaching profession,(i did DCE3) you'd then have to go onto uni to do a teachers degree think its about a 3-4 year course.BTEC is alot of paper work as there isn't any test at the end you graded on your course work.you have to have good GCSE's to get onto the BTEC course if you find your local colledge they'l give you a prospectus which will give you all the details of all the courses.xx
