He's 9 months old and one day he was running, made a quick turn and cried loudly in pain. He limped for about 30 minutes and was fine. Since then, he has cried just like that in pain every so often when he's playing, then he's fine. I can't reproduce the pain myself and there is nothing in the paw. I have pulled, squeezed, and manipulated many times. Do I take him to the vet even though he doesn't show signs all the time?

Short answer...yes. You should take him to the vet. Labradors are an EXTREMELY athletic breed and can suffer ligament injuries and joint injuries that may not be repeatable with an owner's home exam.

Get him checked out by a veterinarian. He could have an affliction many large breed dogs have: hip displasia. Sometimes it can be helped with surgery, other times pain medication is the only thing that will help.
Have your veterinarian diagnose it early, so you can begin treatments right away. Hip displasia is incurable, but surgery may help, like I said before.
Or he could have early onset arthritis. Which pain medication would help.
Get him to the veterinarian.
Good Luck and I hope it's not hip displasia.
