yes, if all i could offer was 5.15 worth of work. Lets say i'm babysitting an11 year old, well, that's not hard if we got some video games to play for a few hours, that's not really worth any more than 5.15 an hour, but if i'm working as a doctor, then no, because i would provide a lot more valuable service.

Unfortunately, until I am able to get my degree, I do.

The minimum wage is not usless, $5.15 is (almost or exactly) the minimum wage for a waitress in CT, and I have never earned more than minimum at any waitressing job.

almost no one does. even really low end jobs pay better. the only people making $5.15 deserve $5.15.

I once did. But I got a college degree so I wouldn't have to do so forever. Democrats in Congress want to raise the minimum wage to something like $7. It has been the same since I started college, in 1996.

Nope. Even here in Michigan, the land of a dying economy, I am getting over $8 at two jobs. Sadly, that's what a college degree gets you here. I telecommute for job #3 at about $10/hour after taxes.

Only until something better came along or I had proved myself to my boss to get a raise or I had gone on to educate myself to be able to get something better.

Kinda what the minimum wage is intended for. That's why, statistically, less than 1% of the population earns it AND the majority of those that do earn it, earn it for less than a year before going up in income for any of the above reasons.

I started at $1.65 an hour.

I retired years ago at almost $75,000 a year.

Everybody wants to drop out of school in the 7Th grade, and immediately get a position as Vice President of IBM with a seven figure salary and a guarantee of advancement and pay increases. Most people are a paid more than they are worth, damn few get less.

BTW, there are people looking for "positions" and there are people looking for "jobs" but no one is looking for "work" because they found it yesterday.

If I had to I would. I would do the job to the best of my ability and I doubt I would be working for the minimum very long. If there was no room for advancement, I would start somewhere else.

Minimum wage is for kids starting in the work force, a place to learn jobs skills. Once learned it is expected those wages will increase.
