Saw the bad reviews of Sheraton and Plantation in Mactan (and bad reviews for the other hotels in Mactan on tripadvisor.com). How about Hoyohoy Villas ( http://www.hoyohoyvillas.com ) in Bantayan Island? Anything similar to that? Or perhaps closer on Cebu Island? Basically looking for a nice villa/cottage on the beach where I can relax for a few days in mid-Feb.. Thanks!

Your best bet quality-wise is the Shangrila Mactan. You have to be savvy or fortunate to get a less than 100 dollar a night rate though.

My vacation last May 2006 was really enjoyable at Costabella Beach Resort in Mactan, Cebu. Rates are so affordable, Filipino rate is at least P3500 per room per night, this includes buffet breakfast. They provide good service and treat guests really well. They have excellent facilities, which includes 2 large swimming pools, where you can relax after a hot day at the beach. You can try the Kota Beach Resort at Bantayan Island. I've been there just last November. Their deluxe cottages are basic, nice and comfy. Crowds were hardly a problem. You can spend USD 50 or even less for their casita or cottage.

the plantation bay in mactan is a nice place to stay...where have you read the bad reviews, in fact they have added additional amenities and improved their facilities... at least that's what i saw on the news.. :)
you have a big budget for your vacation...you wont be having trouble finding a good place that's for sure...
try cebu beach club too...its cheaper..:-)

if you wanted to experience real filipino ambiance ...try " MARIBAGO BLUE WATERS " the palce is cool & rate is less than $100 ......
