Zoning laws are for everybody but the famous and rich. Right? Us average citizens are the only people that should have to obey laws, zoning restrictions & regulations. He should be able to have an 80 foot pole and a flag bigger than my living room...right? The Donald, the king!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! right?

Usually zoning laws are in place for a good reason, for example- limiting the number of dwellings per acre, commercial/residential uses, etc.

The US Flag or ANY other display of favoritism or patriotism is sometimes considered "advertising" or "marketing". The car dealers are well known for flying HUGE flags on HUGE poles to attract business.

In the event of flying the American Flag- It should be decided on a case by case basis. Donald Trump, is also known to invite publicity and cause a stir- just for the public exposure. All aspects of the situation should be analyzed before coming to a conclusion. What is really The Donald's motivation and intent?

The law says he should have no more rights than anyone else but letter and spirit of laws are able to be avoiding when one has the resources and connections to circumvent restrictions placed on most of us. Through their administrations,Bloomberg, Pataki and others have just allowed Trump access to a corner near SoHo at Spring Street and 7th Avenue in New York City with residential variance that hundreds of past developers over decades could not obtain. Apparently might still makes right in NYC and Trump has been allowed to be above the zoning laws.

The zoning law is a bad law. It is unpatriotic. Most
the people in that community want the flag left there
and are proud of it. Who better to fight city council
than someone who has the means to do it (Donald
Trump). Go Donald.

No, he shouldn't.

If he wants to make a free speech issue out of it, but I wonder how many people would be behind him if he flew a Nazi flag?

If you believe Donald and his flag pole is a free speech issue then you would HAVE to stand behind the Nazi flag.

I'm all for free speech, and have defended stuff I don't like, because if I don't stand up and say something now, who's going to stand up and defend my right to free speech. But, this stunt, and it is a stunt, has nothing to do with free speech.

But this is just my opinion.

His issue is that in that county there are already a few other flags over the zoning size and nothing was done with them.

And he is challenging the right of the county to limit the size of the American flag.

Which is his right to do that. he is using legal challenge in court to try and change the law, the same right we all have, but most of us just can't afford to do it.

No-one is above the law; the people who would be leaders of this country, or who are in positions of power and influence have a duty to society to set an example. Flouting the law is not the example we need.

You like the Donald? I didn't until he said, last week: "We need a real secretery of state. We have to get rid of Condoleeza. AQll she ever does is fly around and wave at the reporters. We need someone who'll actually go and do a job. Just waving isn't good enough."

Just waving isn't good enough. In my opinion, the same idea applies to flags.

I find nothing wrong with displaying the flag. More Americans should.
