Sometimes I will lay my three-month-old daughter in her crib to fall asleep. She'll play in there for a bit, watch her hands and she looks completely content... then out of nowhere, just screams. What is that all about?

at this stage of development babies are learn to control their vocal cords. you may notice that your baby is starting to mumble or coo this is perfectly normal. You should only worry if your baby scream and doesn't stop or followed by crying then there maybe something wrong. should it be that case then maybe he or she has gas pains from not burping all the way or maybe has hit their self with a toy or pinched themselves by mistake. You are watching while they are playing then I am sure that it is nothing to worry about. Or it maybe an attention getter if you come running when they do it and they realize if they make a certain noise and you appear then they will use that noise to they needs.

A 3 month old does not comprehend that you still exist when she can't see you. She realizes that she is all alone with no one around her and gets scared. Its normal and it will get better with time. I suggest signing up for www.babycenter.com. They have an Ages and Stages E-newsletter that you can tailor to your child's age. It is VERY helpful. And at times it has been a godsend for me lol.

mom, don't panic. crying is just a baby's way to get attention from the people around her. crying is not to be taken lightly coming from a 3-mo old baby. afterall, that's the only way they communicate with us. crying is never without any reason. if a baby cries she may be...

HUNGRY (for food or mommy), wet, JUST POOPED, or is in pain (this one is particularly hard to detect since they couldnt tell us straight what is painful)

but overall, babies cry for a reason.

That is strange as my child never dont that so I am guessing that she is just using her voice a little bit. I would check with the doctor when you take her back just to see what he has to say about it.

Maybe she just learned to scream... and she's practicing her new skill. My son LOVED to scream for weeks when he realized he could do it for fun. It's so neat to watch babies learn the most basic things... like how to use their vocal cords. :)

Does she arch her back? Sometimes that is a sign of Reflux. Also, maybe its gas. I used gripe water on my son and it works wonders. It's a little expensive, but so worth it!!

Whatever her reason is, you'll probably never know. She could be bored, cold, hot, wet, hungry, achy, fearful, or happy. Check her to make sure she's seemingly comfortable, and then don't worry.

She might be bored, or itchy, or there might be something poking into her back.. you've checked the crib for little wood pieces or something? (Not that I'm sure how one would get in there)
