The answer should be 2.83 because:
6(x-2)=5
= 6x-12=5(multiply everything in the bracket by 6)
6x=5+12(move the 12 to the other side...like terms)
x=17/6
=2.833333333
=2.83

Ok here goes

Use the distributive property to clear the ( ) in otherwords multiply everything inside the ( ) by the 6 that is out side the ()

6(x-2) = 5

6x - 12 = 5 now add -12 to both sides of the equation

+12 +12

6x = 17 now didide each side by 6
--- ----
6 6

x = 2.8333333 rounded to 2.83
hope this helps

Use distributive property to multiply the 6 times x and then times -2. Set this equal to 5 (6x-12=5). Then use addition, subtraction and multiplication properties of equality to get your variable on one side and the numbers on the other.
