I am a new kid in a school. My family moved. I had a choice in gym to do dance or ice hockey, because all the girls picked dance, I chose it too. I am pretty shy, and the thing is that the teacher said we might do the tango in class with a partner. I am nervous because I hate being embarassed. And the thing is that there are some boys in dance too so some of the girls will partner with boys. I dont think we can change to the diffrent sport. What can I do to stop being so cautious about it?

I'd change to ice hockey but Dancing in Gym isn't exact fun. To keep calm just take a deep breath and relax as best so you can. If the class is mostly girl so you'll prob. get put with a girl but if you are put with a boy just try your best not to screw up but if you do just laugh it off.
Good Luck

well, ur not alone hun..this exact situation happened to me, new school, gym class, but i didnt have a choice..we were doing square dancing...oh boy!! i ended up with some boy who was very wierd...and obnoxious...i was so scared, nervous and embarassed..but once it started, i realized no one is paying attention to me, they're all worried about how dumb they look..so i just went on until it was over...and by the end everyone was laughing...the point is..ur definitely not the only one who feels stupid or embarassed, most of the other kids probably feel the same..the only difference with u is that its a new school so u might feel a little more nervous, but i promise u'll get thru it and no one is watching u as much as u might think, they are worried about doing the tango themselves...but if ur that worried, ask the teacher if ucan change to hockey, im sure its not the end of the world....GOOD LUCK

I have danced for 10 years and dancing is totally fun. No matter what you do with a partner in dance it in no way reflects how you feel for them it is simply a form of art. If you are afraid of being close to another guy or girl don't worry about it. Dance is a great way to make new friends and even if you are paired with a guy you can still have fun. Hope it works out well

Forget the partner. He/she is just as nervous. Learning the tango is going to be fun. You won't use it now, but eventually you can show off! Lifes little challenges like this will make us stronger. If you're nervous and learn to cope with things like partners in dancing, this coping is a life skill you can learn to use at say, a job interview.

well first of all ask if you can switch. It's worth a shot. If you can't switch then you're just gonna have to deal with it. I mean what did you expect when you picked dance? Did you think you got only watch the girls dance?? You're gonna have grow some and just do it. What's the worst that could happen?

Think about it as a way to meet new kids, guys and girls. It's okay to be nervous. I bet the other kids in your class will be also. Just try to relax and have fun and talk to your classmates. Before you know it, you'll find yourself making new friends and fitting right in.
Hope this helps!

Its always hard being "the new girl" I've been one before. I was shy but then I thought to myself "Hey, why am I being shy? They don't know anything about me or my past." So then I got more confidant. Those girls and boys shouldn't think anything bad to you. Just laugh off the embarrassing things. No need to be shy.

Ever heard the phrase bite the bullet?
Just get in there and do it, it's the best way... it's nerve-racking at first, but after a few minutes you won't care anymore, you'll just enjoy it...
It won't take long before your confidence starts to build...
Even if you're no good at first, you'll soon learn and improve, and it's a good way to make new friends...

Make friends with the boys. If you're already friends, then when its time for gym class you will have a hilarious time laughing at each other, all in good fun.
