it is pushed by the downward motion of the cylinders. That, and little færies sprinkle magic dust on the mice that run inside the engine.

If you're asking which direction it rotates, then it could be either direction. if it's what causes it to turn,then it's due to the piston pushing the connecting rod which is connected to the crankshaft much like a leg on a bicycle crank, that's it! hope this helps,Mark
