I am looking for suggestions for my book club- our favorites have been 'The Kite Runner,' 'Memoirs of a Geisha,' 'How to be Lost,' 'Girl with a Pearl Earring,' and several other Target book club picks! We are a group of 20 and 30 something women, many teachers. Any ideas of what we'd like? Considering our favorites, do you think we would like 'Saving fish from drowning' by Amy Tan? Thanks!

OK, here are some suggestions:
"Night" by Elie Wiesel
"The Memory Keeper's Daughter" by Kim Edwards
Anything by Mitch Albom. I reccomend "Tuesdays with Morrie" and "The Five People You Meet In Heaven" especially.
"The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown.
"The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold
"The Corrections" by Jonathon Franzen
"Tara Road" by Maeve Binchy
"Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer
"New Moon" by Stephenie Meyer
"A Great and Terrible Beauty" by Liba Bray
"An Assembly Such As This" by Pamela Aiden (this is a thrilling recount of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen told through Mr. Darcy's point of view. There will be three books, I'm not sure if the second is out yet...)
"Pemberley" by Emma Tenant (also a sweet sequel to P&P)
"Anna Karenina" by Leo Tolstoy
"Perfect" by Natasha Friend (it may seem a little adolescent, but I loved it. It is a touching tale of a girl battling bulimia.)
"White Oleander" by Janet Fitch
For more contemparary:
"The Devil Wears Prada" by Lauren Weisberger
Happy Reading!

Amy Tan is a great author, but I'm sure you guys know that! I'm a 25 year old English major and a few books I've enjoyed are: Wives and Daughters by Elizabth Gaskell (Victorian lit), Night by Elie Wiesel (about the Holocaust) and Back When we were Grownups by Anne Tyler. Enjoy!

The Pilot's Wife by Anita Shreve
Green Grass Grace by Shawn McBride
Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg (older but well worth it. I loved the movie, but the book was better.)

Try Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. It historically rich in detail with larger than life characters and unforgettable story lines. So far there are 6 books in the series and she is working on the seventh. Your book club will be discussing if for years!
