The monitor wouldn't switch off if there was a problem with the modem so make sure its actually switching off. Is the little light on the monitor power button going off? Also check the power cord connection from the monitor to the plug and make sure its secure. If the monitor is indeed shutting off, then the fault could be the wall socket itself (try plugging it in somewhere else). Or it could be that the monitor has a power supply problem, and would have to be fixed or replaced.

If you mean you walk away from your computer and come back to find your monitor off, then you hit the keyboard or move the mouse and it comes back on, its a setting you need to change. To do this, right click the desktop, click properties. Go to the screen saver tap and click power. In the drop down box next to "turn off monitor", put "never"... If this is not the case, probably a hardware problem...

Like others have mentioned, examine the drivers on your pics card, and the potential grant. If neither of those artwork, examine the heatsink is in place wisely (the great fan masking the processor) via fact if it isnt the computing gadget switches itself off so the processor doesnt overheat. ensure you once you examine the legs of the heatsink/fan that they are all clicked into place, you ought to hear/experience a click.
