Isn't this getting ridiculous? I mean most people know who they are going to vote for right off the bat. All of this politicking that goes on for what seems like forever! And living in Iowa, it used to be a "sport" watching and listening to the wannabe's, now it is excruciating having every form of public media lead with politics. The amount of money these people throw around looking for a few voters is mind-boggling!

No offense but i think you are mistaken that everyone already knows who they'll vote for. I've been a Democratic activist for over 30 years, & have found many folks don't fully consider the candidates until a month or so before the primaries.

The folks here, on both sides, are more inclined to make up their minds this early. From what I've read so far the rationale for giving support is mainly image & popularity, but hey that's been going on for years. It's a large part of why we get the leaders we DESERVE!!

In 2000 John McCain was giving Bush a serious run for his money in the Republican primary. This took everyone by surprise. The grass roots true American voice was being expressed.
Then the lobbyist whom run both parties poured in millions of dollars into the next the next several states where elections were being held. Their candidate was GWB because McCain's appeal was to get lobbyist out of Washington D.C..
GWB took these states in a landslide except one where he won by only a small margin.

No matter who ultimately wins the lobbyist pretty much pull the strings by getting the each candidate onto the Republican and Democratic tickets.

One answerer stated this is America and people can spend their monies how they want.

I say this is un-American and the only ones that truly win are the lobbyists.

I'm for spending limits so that the true American voice can be heard throughout the world with a roar.

American morality is very powerful. If we allow it to work for us by getting fair and balanced scrutiny of our politicians it would serve not only America well but the entire world.

I am starting to think that there should be very set criteria that each candidate must follow in order to get there message out. They should have only a certain amount of apparances and ways to advertize themselves. That way who has the greatest amount of campaign donations would no longer have the greatest advantage, and the person who wins wouldn't have so many favours to repay to corporations.

Not a bad idea but I think putting a limit on campaign spending would serve the same purpose. That way no one candidate could flood the media with their campaign ads

The last time I checked my address, I still live in america and here we have the right to spend our money. Let them toss it away if they want to. After all, it's free money given to them under the laws that allow them to get it. No big deal. Why change it now?? Is it because you don't like the idea that there is going to be a dem in office next time???

If they want to spend the money, let them. It helps the country by adding revenue and jobs to the economy. If the ads are annoying, just change the channel.
