My bos likes to use this phrase, it is very frustrating because THIS ISNT A PERFECT WORLD and never will be. I feel he is trying to achieve something that just isnt so, and gets angry when things dont work out in his "perfect world". then he goes balistic on me and other employees, what can i do to tell him "this isnt a perfect world and never will be"..Deal with it and stick to realistic expectations....

We all have little catch phases we live with. His, is "in a perfect world". He no doubt wishes it were perfect, but you and I know, and I am sure he does too, that it is far from perfect. When he says this statement, you might chime in, "yes, in another life", or "not in our life-time", something along those lines to let him know his statement is far reaching reality. Trying to talk to him about his comments will make him become defensive, and sadly to say, that is why he is "the boss", he is in charge and you are not. It is what it is.

It sounds as though that boss of yours is rather hung up on annoyingly trendy cliches. Perfection is, in fact, an illusion and it is a shallow short-sighted one as well. There is a saying that goes "Have no fear of perfection. You'll never reach it" is more to the point. Human beings were not created perfect, and I think we are meant to learn through our inperfections. Perhaps, in that sense, we are stronger in them. For example, there's a story that illustrates this .

There was a gardener who would take his two pots down to the local well every morning for water. One pot was whole and perfect and did the job of containing the water without so much as a spill. The other, was beaten up and cracked all down one side which always leaked the water. But where the water leaked out beautiful flowers grew. One day the pot asked its owner "If I'm so cracked and useless, why bring me to the well? I'll only spill and leak." To this, the gardener replied, " Your cracks and spills made it possible for flowers to grow, thus making my walk back to the garden much more pleasant"

As for your boss, I think he might benifit from therapy. As for you and your co-workers, simply tell him "We can do the best we can to make it work perfecly in an imperfect world"

The truth is that your boss KNOWS that this isn't a perfect world. He is simply trying to drop his "baggage" on you and your co-workers by trying to get you to achieve the impossible. Smile, tune him out, and continue to do the best job that you can do. Leave him to fight with his own inner turmoil.

In a perfect world, people wouldn't have to ask questions like yours. You are right; this is not a perfect world.

This is a perfect world. The imperfection you attribute to it is of your own distorted perception.
