I am on day 12 of my cycle and I'm not currently taking the pill. I just found out I will be going on holiday around day 30 of my cycle, and I will be having sexual intercourse then. I have researched on the net and they recommend to only start at the beginning or on day 5. But I don't have this luxury right now. I wonder if I can start taking the pill now and keep taking through the holidays? They say as long as I take 7 active pills, I should be safe from falling pregnant. What should I do? My main concern is getting pregnant but skipping my period during my holidays would be good too.

You should be fine. It's true that the pill is effective after 7 days of taking it and you can start it anytime during your cycle. It's just better for you to start it at the begining of your cycle. You might experience more side effects this way and it might take longer for your body to adjust to the hormones, but will you have the pregnancy protection that you desire? Yes, yes you will.

As for that other answerer who said that the pill is not meant to be your only form of contraception, that's crazy! The pill is more effective than condoms! If you're not in a monogamous relationship or complete aware of your partner(s) sexual health, you should definitely use condoms for protection against sexually transmitted infections and added pregnancy protection.

If you are taking them to prevent conception then she should take every pill in the package every month. If she misses more than 2 pills then you should use a back up method like condoms until her menstrual cycle. I hope I helped.

You will probably still have your period if you start taking them now. I would just wait to start them after your next period (what the doctors, and the package suggests). Just be sure to have other forms of contreception on you. The doctor also told me that you are not the normal 99.99% protected on the first pack. (Notice that isn't 100% anytime.) Just like any other medicine it takes time for the medicine and your body to start working together.
At any rate, if you decide to start the pill now I would still use other contreception with it. You have to remember that the pill only helps to protect against pregnancy, and not STD's. I would still use condoms. (We personally use the pill, condoms, and he pulls out. I have a friend that her 2nd child was a pill/ condom baby)

First, remember that the only true protection from pregnancy is abstinence. If you're worried about pregnancy and planning on being sexually active, you should try other forms of contraceptive. Birth control pills should never be looked at as primary protection. And did you know that you can get pregnant while you are on your cycle? On the pill also? It doesn't matter if you are on day 21 of your pills. You can still end up pregnant. Think about it.

It should stop the period but be careful with the pregnant. I have a 10 year old and an 8 month old and they are both pill babies.
