If the printer was made in the last 4 years you need the colour ink to make it print, if you have an empty one kicking around install that. Sometimes printers will function with one empty cartridge.

Color and black ink are independant from each other (two seperate cartridges). If you try printing something in color and you have no color ink, nothing will be printed but will print blacks if your black ink is not depleted. Make sure you have all the right drivers installed (usually comes in a CD with your printer).
Hope that helps.

You did not give the printer make and model so can only guess - but there are many types of printers that will not print if they are out of ink.

It does not ought to "have" colour ink, inspite of the incontrovertible fact which you do want the two a black and a colour cartridges put in to ensure that to any extent further modern-day variety printer to artwork. only circulate away an empty colour cartridge in and set your printer putting to gray scale or black only. you additionally can want to circulate in the process the motions of putting in the empty colour cartridge as you may a sparkling one. IE. tell the printer you have put in a sparkling cartridge. this might preclude any blunders or warning messages from doping up.

That would be my guess. I deal with mostly HP color printers, and if the color runs out, it quits.
