In grand slam tournaments (ie Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open), the men play best of 5 sets (ie the winner must win 3 sets, so there can be 3, 4 or 5 played in a total), while the women play best of 3.
In smaller tournaments, everyone usually plays best of 3 sets, though in some men's tournaments, the final will be best of 5 sets.
In addition, the women play best of 5 sets in the final of the season ending championship.

It depends on the tournament and on the sex playing.
Generally men play a maximum of 5 sets ( best of 5 - first to win 3 sets ) and women play a max of 3 ( best of 3 - first to win 2 sets )
In some tournaments men play ( best of 3 )in all rounds or just the preliminary rounds.
Also remember that not all sets are the first to 6 games won or 7 games in the event of a tie break. In the last possible game of a match, the tiebreak situation changes and the winner must win by 2 clear games...

Most tournaments - all 3 set
Grand Slams - Women 3 set, men 5 set (and women have the cheek to say they should get the same prize money as men in grand slams - want the same money play the same amount of tennis is my view)

For men,(in the case of the Grand Slams-the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open), it is the best of five sets,i.e.,the player has to win 3 sets to win the match, for other ATP tournaments,it is the best of 3 sets.
For women,it is the best of 3 sets, the player has to win 2 sets to claim the match, irrespective of whether its a Grand Slam or any other tournament.

In Men tennis on Grandslams (so also in Australian Open) it is 3 won sets.. so it can be 3,4 or 5 sets in a match. But during the ATP tour it is the same as women.. so 2 won sets.. In women on Grandslams and also during WTA tour it is 2 won sets.. so it can be 2 or 3 sets in one match. .. i hope it is comprehensible :)

Normally, tournaments have only 3 sets (male and female), but the finals are 5 sets (male). Grand Slams have 5 sets for male, and 3 for female. From round 1.

Depends on the rules of the tournament. The Australian open had best of 3 for women's tennis and best of 5 for the men's.
