the North Shore area for the following reasons...
1) cleanliness - cleanist area in Sydney
2) transport - trains/buses
3) proximity - close to downtown and best beaches in Sydney
4) safety - most certainly the safest area of Sydney. Most of Sydneys' problems have no presence in the north.

It depends entirely on what you want, what your lifestyle is, what your family does, how big your family is, where you work etc etc etc. The first question should be how easy will it be to get to work? Can you use public transport or will you need to drive. You don't want to spend 90 minutes each way in traffic every day. talk to real estate agents in the general area you choose and listen to what they have to say. Walk or drive round the area and look at it.
Sydney has some great suburbs and the best are not the most expensive.
I have lived in the eastern suburbs and the inner west (Newtown/Glebe area) and have had a great time. I wouldn't be seen dead on the north shore, they all vote for Little Lying Johnny, the prime minister, over there. They also take the kids to school in armoured personnel carriers. If you want to spend time in the city, it can be very expensive with Bridge tolls as well.

I lived in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, I loved the mountains, it has your arty, ecclectic types of people.. HOWEVER, its sooo far away from everything. If I was to live in Sydney again I would live in Newtown, Glebe, Annandale area there is heaps to do all the time. If you prefer the beach there are heaps, Manly, Coogee, Cronulla or Bondi just to name a few. Sydney can be a cool place to live but you have to choose your area very carefully, and unfortunately all good areas have a huge price tag attached!!

It sounds such as you're describing my section! I stay interior the eastern Suburbs, in Clovelly. Any suburb around that section may well be great for you. the place I stay, it takes me a million/2 hour by utilising bus to get to the CBD (with the aid of fact of site visitors), 15 minutes to Bondi Junction and 10 minutes to Randwick Junction, all that are vast for shops. There additionally are little shops each couple of highway, like convenience shops, extraordinarily lots anyplace you flow interior the eastern suburbs. there are various buses interior the section, so transport isn't a concern, and in case you get to Bondi Junction or the CBD then you definately can rather get a custom, the two places are undemanding to get to by utilising bus. There are 2 gyms in Bondi Junction, 3 between there and my domicile and too many to count selection contained in something of the section. There are swimming pools interior the section, the main significant one for me is on the uni and is extremely inexpensive, yet you additionally are very close to to a great form of beaches, all of that have their very own exterior swimming pools. The crime value is sturdy, i do no longer understand lots approximately that besides the shown fact that that's a secure section to stay. For working, there are a pair of huge parks. i might advise Queens Park, Waverley Park or, the main important, Centennial park. i'm hoping you detect what you're searching for. the only draw back of my section is that's extremely high priced. that is complicated to discover inexpensive aaccommodationand, with the aid of fact a great form of the section is so wealthy, the department shops are extra high priced too. besides the shown fact that that's surely a eye-catching place to stay.
