This is a Westminster chimes mechanical clock. The chimes on the hour, half and both quarters operate 5 mins after the due time. Moving the minute pointer back does not correct it. The pointers cannot be physically repositioned on the shaft as they are keyed and can only go on in the set position. Any watchmakers out there?

I've tried the proposed solution - no joy I'm afraid. Whatever I do the chimes are still 5 minutes late in each of the quarter positions.

Hi,

I have a German westminster mechanical clock, when I first set it up I put both hands up to 12 o'clock then set the chimes. How I did that was turn the minute hand back to ten or when u hear a clicking noise, then go back to 12. Count the amound of gongs, it could be on the hour or the others, once it starts gonging on the hour keep repeating untill u hear the clock gong 12 times, u have then set it up as far as gonging the correct time is concerned.

Next , but don't go backwards, go to 15 mins and let it gong and wait untill u hear a little click after it chimes b4 u carry on, repeat this process every quarter untill u get to 1pm and check that it gongs once if it does ur in buisness, all u do then is repeat the process untill u reach the proper time.

Good luck and please let me know how u get on.

Ps read ur letter again, re ur minute hand, well this is definetly out, by waiting until 12 then all u do is point both hands straight to 12 and this will reset the hands to correct position, and as long as no one touches them they should be fine.

Ps 2, Its no good moving the minute hand back as it will still be out of bonk, by pushing both hands together at 12 ur resetting both hands to correct position.
