Yes. Our science teacher in 6th and 7th grade made us write
"The flower of sorrow grows on the stem of disobedience" 500 times if we misbehaved.

This happened to me in grade school alot. The teacher would give this out if she wanted to punish the whole class for something. It did give us the opportunity to learn how to write with two pencils at the same time though. Some kids even managed three, although their penmanship wasn't all that great. I couldn't do three, although it would have been nice at the time to reduce an 1,000 line task to just over 300 lines. I don't agree that it's ridiculous though. I am a trainer at my current job and with some of the people I have had to train I can really see the advantage of forcing them to think about something 1000 times, maybe it will finally stick then.

I was usually given 100 lines ,but I didn't worry because my two brothers and sister copied 25 each = 75+25=100. Its a teach / drill / repeat / action ,fortunately ,these days it is put to a better use in teaching Languages. The sentence was.I must not laugh with my friend during the lords prayer in assembly.Phew ! As a teacher I exclude students for 5-30 mins,so they can think about their actions.I then ask them to explain the reason, this also helps their language skill.

Yes.
Many years of catholic shcool and when the class got into trouble for something like talking too much that was a common practice to make us do something like that.
I would write the same word down the page til the bottom and then start back at the top of the page with the next word.
Seemed to go quicker that way always writting the same word.

Yes in grammar school. Nuns loved this form of torture. A friend had to write something so many times that he developed a blister on his hand which got infected from the ink and he ended up in the hospital. The mom's took action at that point and it was the last we had that punishment.

No, but I was forced to write this sentence: "I promise I will do my assignment." a hundred times when I was in high school, but you know, teachers aren't suppose to do that because it's corporal punishment and it's against the rules.

convinced, and the worst area became no longer cramping interior the palms (i became use to writing essays, etc.) The worst area became writing the same words, of the same sentence repeatedly and under no circumstances being waiting to write down some thing diverse, or maybe re-note the sentence with mild differences for somewhat kind.

I've never had to do that, but I do think that it's a rediculous punishment. Having to do something stupid like that is just going to make the victim angrier at the school, not help his situation.
