Yes, try any of the Narnia Chronicles by C S. Lewis, The Redwall series by Brian Jacques, or Artemis Fowl books by Eoin Colfer. There are also some great books by Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett.
I would start with:
Lion, the witch and the wardrobe by C. S. Lewis
Redwall by Brian Jacques
Artemis Fowl by Eoin COlfer
Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Small Gods by Terry Pratchett
Enjoy!

The Uglies Trilogy by Scott Westerfield are some really good books.
I know someone who is reading the Midnighter series also by him, and they can hardly put the books down. These along with what everyone else has mentioned make some really good reading.

Some more stories that I love are:
Scarlett Pimpernel
Three Musketeers
Les Miserables
How to kill a mockingbird
Ender's Game
Gone with the Wind
Pirates: by Celia Rees (any books by Celia Rees)
