I am losing it with computer companies!!!

I have a Dell Latitude Notebook about 5 years old. The Backspace key has popped off because the little white tab that attaches the key to the keyboard has worn enough that it won't fit back the hole.

Anyway, I have taken it to about three computer repair guys who charged me 10-20 bucks to tell me they couldn't fix it after 60 seconds.

I phoned Dell, and they will not sell me the peice, as they do not make replacement parts for keyboards, even laptops!

What advice do any of you have for me? Is there anyone with a dead Latitude notebook that would pop off the button? What else could be done? I am going crazy!!!

There is no part number. It is simply the white plastic flange that connects the key board to the key.

not sure if they have dell stuff, but if they do they could sell you the keyboard.

Dell as most companies wouldn't sell just one ley for a keyboard, they would sell the entire keyboard.

Most major computer manufactures, won't let anyone fix their laptops except their won techs.

Changing the keyboard can be simple or somewhat hard depending on the laptop.

Dell will not sell you a single key. No computer company will. However, if you look on the Dell web site under Support, you will find the service manual for your model. Follow the instructions for removing the keyboard. (Usually five screws (marked with a "K" on the bottom of the laptop. On the bottom of the keyboard will be a part number.

Contact Dell and they should be able to sell you the entire keyboard. I purchase them regularly. Should be in the $30-50 dollar range (depending on the model). If Dell will not sell you one, do a Google search for the part. It should not be hard to find one.

There is one connector you unplug, plug in the new keyboard, and replace the screws. Done.

The notebook, will no longer be in production, so they will be unable to sell you a key, basically, the same happened to me with my old dell which i had for about 4 years, i just put a small spot of super glue and it works fine

YOU CAN ALWAYS GET A SEPARATE KEYBOARD TO ATTACH THROUGH THE USB PORT. THAT'S THE GENERAL DECISION IF YOU CAN'T FIND ANYONE THAT HAS A LAPTOP LIKE YOURS AND DOESN'T USE IT. ALL THOSE SITES FOR BUY/SELL THINGS(NOT ONLY EBAY) ARE USUALLY FULL OF PEOPLE SELLING OLD LAPTOPS FOR 10-20-30 BUCKS, ESPECIALLY MORE THAN 5 YEARS OLD.
MY LAPTOP IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD, BUT I CAN'T FIND A BATTERY FOR IT(EVEN HP TOLD ME THEY DON'T SELL THAT "OLD" BATTERIES) IT'S CRAZY!! NOW I USE IT ONLY AT HOME, PLUGGED IN THE AC.

The only thing I can think of is to replace the keyboard. I'm pretty sure the whole thing can be taken out and replaced with a new one.

I think you should look for the exact part number and then look for it on ebay. I have found keyboards before on ebay. Then you can just repair the entire keyboard.
