No, it is a legimate loan that must be paid back.

I am a lender on Prosper and I currently have 18 loans made (I had 20 but 2 were defaulted for non-payment).

If you read some of the stories behind the need for the loan, some are pretty close to begging but, if you receive a loan, there is a "note" created, an interest rate, a payment schedule and an expectation of repayment.

in one way, yes, your at the end of your rope trying to get a loan, so you have to go on line and ask. on the other hand, its not free, so its no handout. you have to pay it back, with interest.
