Sometimes the bad karma may come from a previous life. Even though the person may be a good in this life, they may have done something very bad in their previous life that is now coming to haunt them.
And like someone said, no person is good all the time. People do bad things, and sometimes it ends up really hurting another person's feelings or causing them harm. So for those acts, karma will come to make them pay.

What we're seeing here, Yahoos, is a split between a word's initial meaning and the meaning we've come to use it for.
Karma, as used technically by Buddhists, doesn't really work that way, at least not in the way I'm taking you to mean it. Karma isn't an immediate thing: one's good and bad actions remain on one's "scorecard" (ha ha) for all of infinity, until one reaches nirvana: that is, if you stomp a kitten or save a life today, you may not see the repercussions until eight lifetimes from now; in which you will probably have no recollection whatsoever of the stomping or saving.
Karma's a funny thing, though: just because it is reckoned to stay with you across infinite lifetimes doesn't mean that it NEVER works on such a short scale as we commonly refer it to: if we were to take Karmic judgement at face value: sure, your promotion on Thursday MIGHT be directly related to your helping an older woman across the street on Tuesday - but probably not.
These days, us non-Buddhists like to refer to lots of things as Karma: "I stopped smoking and won the lottery - that's Karma, baby!" or "I know my house burned down because I didn't give to UNICEF this year, effin' Karma!" etc etc... but as I said, it doesn't really WORK that way.
So, where is Karma when BAD things happen to GOOD people? It's there: maybe they were not always so good, or (as I'd rather believe) maybe their next lifetime is going to be so incredibly stupendous that some balancing needs to go down. Either way, take heart: nirvana awaits us all.

Karma is always there. When bad things happen to good people, then it only means that in their past lives they did something that was wrong, and so Karma caught up to them.
Also remember, as was said before, that something bad may actually lead to something better than expected. All of this may also seem like just bad luck, but if you have ever studied philosophy then you know the hermetic principle of causation whihc says that chance is just a name for law not recognized. So whenever something that seems bad happens, just try to see what it may bring.

Bad things happen to all of us: good, bad, mediocre, vicious, righteous, etc. Karma, the wheel of life, tells us 2 things. One, we may be experiencing a 'payback' for something we did in a former life. (BTW, I do not hold with this belief.) Two, despite the 'bad' things, it is our response and actions that are entered into the Great Journal.
For example, a family loses a child. Grief drives the mother to drink, drug, neglect her other children. On the other hand, the dad may realize that this other children are very precious and devotes more time to them. Same event, different responses.
Which one do you think is more positive energy for the universe? Both fit into Karma.

With no offense at all, Karma isn't selectively engaged in dispensing all good all the time to all. It will get ya though, good or bad. By the way on the opposite side of your stress is that GOOD things happen to "BAD" people too.
Part of anyones Universal consciousness should be the attitude that patience and tolerance are as valid as acceptance.
Those who state that they believe in a GOD, also, sometimes BLAME their GOD for anything negative. If one takes the attitude that this analogy is valid, then perhaps acceptance, tolerance, and most especially patience will keep them on course.
If you believe, then you should analogize life as if it is a business, and if you assume GOD created you, then you should also believe that the instruction manual is often vague and confusing, hence creating "Operator Error" in the process of living.

Who knows why is it good... There are no coincidences... Bear in mind however that karma doesn't work instantly - meaning, you do bad thing today and karma-postman delivers reaction to it right away... although it happens aswel... clear your thoughts... love... that's the only way... also, sometimes, bad thing is just a disguise for real life opportunity... what you do with it is what really matters

Karma is never far behind especially in cases like these but the good people don't see or realize Karma's powers.

Hi!
Karma is not just when you do bad things and they come back to you, but also when you do good things and they come back to you. So, whatever you do, it comes back to you. You can call it good or bad karma, if you like.
It may be that good people have fear about something, for example... fear from dying of cancer. They fear it so much, it eventually comes back to them because they send this fear out to the universe and the ugly thoughts come back in the form of a cancer.
That's one example of how thoughts are important. It may seem difficult now to think ''Oh, great! Now I'll have to even control my thoughts.'' Good news is that negative thoughts are much weaker than positive thoughts, which means good things bring about even better things, so when u feel bad, just put on your favourite piece of music or go out for a walk, read a good book or do something else to help you feel good again.
Some people say bad things happen to you if you did something bad in one of your past lives. I don't know if you believe in past lives, but the most important thing is what you do and think now.
Hopefully, this has helped you a little bit, and who knows, you may help some good person avoid bad karma :o)
Cheers!

If you knew the definition of karma, you wouldn't ask such a question. Karma has nothing to do with this life, it's like a price to pay for your deeds in a previous lifetime.

Rather than seeing it as "karma" or "what comes around, goes around", I believe it's best to see it as different experiences that help you step up to the next level in your life.
As a personal example, every time something bad has happened to me, I have gotten upset and angry. But eventually (and it may take months, even years) I will see that I end up in a better place because of the bad things that have happened to me.
You take those experiences and you learn from them. Then apply them to your future experiences to avoid these things happening again. In this sense, you create your own good fortune based on previous negative experiences, and transcend this phase in your life to the next one.
