I know that toxemia, HELLP, and other emergencies are reasons for a ceasarian, but what else?

If my baby's over a certain weight, would that qualify?

I'm only 23 weeks, but I AM curious.

There're loads of _nonsense_ reasons for c-sections out there.

Ask your doctor why he performs them. If you get a laundry list of reasons, which include breech presentation and "the baby is too big," it might be time to shop for another practictioner.

Read the articles on it here:

and consider getting the book from the same author --

-- which I can't recommend strongly enough.

It depends on the doctor. If your doctor has a high c-section rate then there are many reasons they will preform a c-section.

Some doctors c-section for a large baby, some do not. Either way a diagnosis of a large baby has been shown to be detrimental to the health of mom and baby at delivery regardless of the size of the baby. So simply refuse an ultrasound to determine size, they are grossly inaccurate but will change how the doctor "manages" your pregnancy.

I am a very petite woman and my doctor stood outside my room for HOURS just watching the progression on his monitor. He was afraid I might have a c-section , not that my son was big, he was 6.1 but because he was soo broad through the shoulders and the circumference of his head looked like it was going to be way too difficult for me. He said he was afraid the baby was going to get stuck in the birth canal. All worked out just fine for me. I had him vaginally.

Usually if there is a problem with your blood pressure i.e. pre- eclamsia or if the baby is in the breech position in the last trimester your ginie will schedule a section.

If the baby is in fetal distress is probably the MAIN reason a doctor would do a c-section.
