Hi...going to be wearing a wet suit for the first time, when i brave the chilly(at this time of year) waters off the Mallorcan (Majorcan) coast..

does it really matter if the garment that i wear under it is thin,thick..or is it better not to wear anything..
also what about trunks..??? i normally wear long (down to the knee) shorts when i am swimming...is it prefereable to wear these..or thinner ones...

I would like the best warmth i can get out of wearing what i can get my hands on..

Thanks

Michael

Usually people wear their bathing suit under a wet-suit. You really do not have to wear anything under a wet-suit though. But I guess it is better if you do. Of course you can wear a so-called shorty with your wet-suit. Then of course you have more buoyancy. One very important thing though is that you do wear a wet-suit that does fit you. If there is too much water coming into your wet-suit because the wet-suit is too big, you will be very cold very fast. It may not be too loose or too tight. And then, if you decide to wear a shorty on top of the wet-suit, it has to fit as well. There are also long undergarments that you could wear underneath your wet-suit as well. So, you have got different possiblilities. You just need to find what you feel comfortable with the most.

The only thing you really should wear under a wet suit is your birthday suit. If it is a borrowed wetsuit then maybe some tight fitting swim trunks.

Wet suits work by allowing water in, this is warmed by your body and creates a fantastic fitting set of liquid long johns.

When you get back out of the water and this water begins to flow out of the suit onto your feet or hands you will not believe how hot it is.

The wet suit itself is what will keep you warm. They are made in different thicknesses for different water temperatures. Thinner for warmer (tropical) waters, thicker for cooler or more temperate. If you wear a warm enough wet suit, it won't matter; if you wear too thin, it won't matter either.

Wear enough to cover your modesty,The idea behind wet suits is a layer of water in the suit is heated by your body,so that will keep you warm.

if you want the best warmth and don't feel safe just wearing a pair of trunks (that's what I do usually though), you can wear a long sleeved rash guard and boxers - the kind surfers/wakeboarders wear.
