Geena Davis was born to William and Lucille Davis. Her parents were a civil engineer and a teacher's assistant so I don't know who told you her mother was a famous personality in the 50's.
Her origianl name is Virginia Elizabeth Davis. She was born on January 21, 1956 in Wareham, Massachusetts, United States.

Geena Davis's parents are William (a civil engineer) and Lucille (a teacher's assistant). I have a feeling yoou may be thinking about Melanie Griffith's mother being the famous personality from the 50's. She is Tippy Hedren, who was in Hitchcock's The Birds

I actually had her mother as a substitute teacher when I was in high school in the early 1990's. We all thought it was pretty cool that she was Geena Davis's mother. Her mother was pretty down to earth and nice.

Davis was born to William and Lucille Davis (a civil engineer and a teacher's assistant). One of the first signs of her interest and great skill in the performing arts was her budding talent in music. She learned piano, flute and drums, and she also played organ well enough even as a teenager to serve as an organist at her church in Wareham. Enrolling at New England College, Davis eventually graduated with a bachelor's degree in drama from Boston University in 1979. While an exchange student in Sandviken, Sweden, Davis became fluent in Swedish.
