you don't need a screen to hear the songs. You can put the songs on there and play the begining of them and see what the song is. that is what you have to do. Or when you hook it up to your comp you can put them in order that you want to hear them.

The whole point of the Shuffle is to not have complete control over what you're listening to. It has three basic modes, off, playback in order (where it'll play everything in the loaded sequence and loop when it gets to the end), and playback in Shuffle mode (where it'll randomly select the next song that it plays). That's it. If you really want to be able to set up distinct playlists and find specific songs, you can always double your investment and pick up the 2GB silver Nano. At $150, it's a little less than double the cost of the 1GB Shuffle, it has the same music capabilities as the Video (just considerably less storage capacity), and it can display photos (including album artwork that can be linked to each song so it'll show during playback). You won't, however, be able to play games that you've downloaded from the iTunes store or videos in general. Only the iPod Video can play purchased games (not even iTunes can), and the Nano doesn't support video playback. Besides photos, other things that you can always do to use up the extra capacity include using it as a file transfer device (like a USB flash drive) or load it up with free podcasts. Anyways, you should never buy a media player based on the absolute minimum you'd need to fit all of your current music. That doesn't allow you any room to expand without trimming something else out.

well if thats what u can afford then yea its really tough and less likely to get stolen ...but make sure u buy the 1gb then most likely u'll feel like ur money went to good worth. i had all 3 ipods the 3rd time i droped the 30gb it died...the nano is kool and durable but the shuffle is indestructable!
