Maths for me anytime.
Both are useful in the world, but since I was much better at maths than at social studies (and I still am) I liked maths better. For me social studies = boredom + yawns
while maths = fun + work (as in the good kind).
For maths if you got the formula right there would always be a answer to that question. With it comes a satisfaction of doing something right. While you might forget the formula or calculate wrong, there is still an answer.
Social studies (in my school) there was no real "right" answer because you could always look at it and say something different.
So, to sum it up, I like maths better.

This is probably just because I'm english, but it's "Maths" with an "s". Which is also my answer. I learnt a lot more from maths than social studies, stuff that I couldn't have learned by being alive and sociable. I suppose what I'm trying to say is social studies explained things that I already knew, and gave me a better understanding of them, and the correct terms to use when talking about those things. But I already knew.
Maths tought me about things I would have never known, or cared about, but some of which have proved to be really useful. No, you don't need to know that the interior angles of a triangle add up to 180 degrees. But you need to know about statistical probability in order to be a good poker player, or backgammon player. You need to be able to work out budgeting your lifestyle and paying off your debts. Maths is good for this.

********************************************
Math was my better subject because it came easier to me.
As a kid, social studies did not interest me. I didn't care about history, geography, or big world things that (I felt at the time) didn't concern me.
Now, I'd say they are both important if you want to have an idea of what's going on in your world today. Math can make jobs easier. And S.S. can help with current events and the results of politics. What is a good idea and not a good idea when voting? Why should we have a foreign relationship with certain other countries? What is F.I.C.A. and why are they taking my money? That sort of thing.
