I have an enormous amount of respect for both men.

I actually voted for Senator Lieberman in my Democrat caucus in 2004 in a hand-written ballot. Not because of his association with AIPAC (I'm not Jewish), not because of his support for the Iraq War (which I never supported), but because he has dedicated himself to the service of the state he represents - which is why he won in 2006, despite having to run as an Independent - and because the man has the guts to out there and talk to people. Of all the candidates who tried for the Democratic nomination in 2004, who went out and spoke to the American Muslim community? The Jew (Joe Lieberman)! Plus, he was the only candidate who did not try to disguise his Jewishness. I can think of at least two other candidates who had Jewish grandfathers, who disavowed their roots. Joe Lieberman is a Democrat with a conservative bent, and he has never tried to hide that.

Barack Osama is a man of similar courage and conviction. He does not try to hide his roots or his background, even the fact his mother married a Muslim and his Kenyan father abandoned his family. Barack is a liberal, and doesn't try to hide that, either.

So here we are, comparing two totally self-made men, both honest politicians in a system which is designed not to reward either attribute, but to cosset the privileged and the deceitful.

And it comes down to this. As much as I really like Joe Lieberman, I wouldn't necessarily want to date him! Whereas if Senator Obama was a free agent, he would be more of a feature in Cosmo than Newsweek. He is photogenic - dazzlingly so. He is a publicity hound, whereas Sen. Lieberman is not. He is an able public speaker, reminiscent of some of this country's most aspirational orators (Martin Luther King, JFK), and wrote two great books while still an unknown (most politicians wait until they are really famous before going boldly into that ultra-competitive field). In short, Sen. Obama has that special "something", a "star quality" whereas Sen. Lieberman was always content to maintain a lower profile and get on with his day job of representing Connecticut.

Do I think that Sen. Obama's "stardom" has negatively affected his ability to similarly represent the interests of Illinois? In a way, yes. I would say the same of any single-term senator who decides to enter the presidential race. If he declares on Feb. 10th and does well in New Hampshire and Iowa, which I believe he will, he will have to dedicate the next 20 months to campaigning for his presidential bid, to the detriment of his constituents. For now, anyway, he's someone many of us look to favorably, because we crave something new and different in politics and Barack Obama exemplifies difference.

Because the leftist dominated media found a pair of liberals they want you to vote for. That he is a man of color is icing on the cake because now the bogus, ancient, and irrelevant issue of race can be brought into a run for president, and when he and Comrade Hilary lose in 08, the liberal can tell himself they only lost because of misogyny and racism.
Get ready for more wild claims of voter fraud and disenfranchisement in 08. (Which conveinently didn't come up in 06, when the democrats gained their razor thin majority in congress.)

I think Obama is the media's flavor of the day. I sure it'll change as the fists start flying. {and that is only for the primary}

Lieberman has the personality and appeal of a wet mop. Senator Obama is intelligent, articulate, handsome, charming, genuine, has charisma.

As a Canadian, i consider mr. Lieberman quite annoying.

Hes one of the Senators terrified of the threat in Canada. More like a democratic buchanan.

I dont care about the fact he is jewish. There are tons of jewish figures in the US that could make a desent president. Why do you guys have to choose this guy?

Al Sharpton is less pop than Lieberman perhaps?

(Mr. Lieberman is more than welcome to actual check out canada himself. He can see wat we are doing to better deal with tye terror threat and how dangerous we really are.)

I'm not kidding tho much more potent threat already exists in the us than is to be found in canada.

I hope you elect a president capable of working with your allies. (Also one smart enough to do whatever political bullying in private rather than publically.)

Come on, it is so obvious. We have a population of tuned out dolts and a media that can manipulate them easier than a guy running a three card Monte game can win.
