Looking to start up small part time auction / website selling products. I have not yet decided which. I wanted to do a little research to decide on what product and to see what is most profitible. How do you go about finding suppliers and getting them to sell to you at low quantities at first without a business name?

Here are a couple of drop shippers.
You don't even have to take inventory of the product. They will ship them to your customers directly.

There's probably alot more of these guys out there if you look.

Only problem is many of the items are already on ebay and many are not selling.

Hi, the best way is to know what's new, what's hot, what's not. Keep up to date and get the best information available on the market. I suggest you read it completely.
