I've booked a holiday to Jamaica in a few weeks time. My friend saw a programme on people being forced to smuggle drugs back to UK and is obviously very worried. Did anyone see the programme?

People who make documentaries are actually getting payed for making stories seem worser. I have not seen it, but i visit Jamaica often and stay long time. And yes some of my friends there do sell drugs to tourists, as long as there's demand there will be offer, it's just the law of economics. But nobody ever tried to force me to buy, use or smuggle anything anywhere.
Offcourse Jamaica is not Heaven on Earth. Threre's poverty, corruption and crime. But don't believe those who say it is extremely dangerous place, those pple or haven't been there and only base there opinion on rumors, or (if they are locals or related to turism) try to get extra money out of you, like for staying in overpriced and overrated All Inclusive hotel, using "official" taxis and tours, or going to overpriced tourist restaurants and so on. The fact is that local "criminals" are no fools. They know well that violence toward tourists is bad for business. Those guys who control "the beach" make sure young boys who come from the coutryside or garrisons to make easy dollar go back without hurting anyone.
After all Jamaica is still a wonderfull place for vacation, just use your common sence same as you do it at home and you'll be fine.

I went to Jamaica in 2005 and I'm going back (to get married!) in April this year. I have to say that i felt no element of threat in the airport (Montego Bay) or in the resort we stayed. We went on a few organised excursions and again all was fine.

Just use your common sense, there were certainly places we passed through on our transfer that i wouldn't have liked to stop off in but isn't that the same anywhere you travel?

I have no qualms about going back - Can't wait in fact!!

no,I did not dee it and Jamaica is not all that bad like people make it seems.I love and enjoy going there. The country is like any other country it has places that are good and thoes that are bad. There is not a lot of drug use there either. It is a beautiful country and it is also very fun.Do not let no documentary fool you.Go there and enjoy the country and see it for yourself.People always make it seems like it is a very bad country.

Yes, there are some very shady characters that hang around the tourist area. Stay in a group and don't go bar hopping alone always go in with at least one other .. safety in numbers.
It could happen too you.
