I mean , do women control thei flow or is it totally passive as a fluid leaks thru a hole ..?

It's passive. There is no sphincter to regulate the flow.

It is not control that is a factor about a period. There is no option. I mean we can take birth control that can regulate it instead of have like a 7 day period. But nothing else than that.
