do i really need the extra features?

I think it depends on what you plan to do on your computer.

If you're planning to use it for graphics, image editing, gaming, etc. I think it's worthwhile to spend the extra money.

But if you're using the computer for basic internet, word processing, e-mail, I think the 17 inch will be fine.

* I'd stick to what your computer needs are and your budget. You'll get used to whatever screen size you end up purchasing. Good luck deciding!

While 3" does not sound like a lot it CAN make a big difference, especially for movies and graphics. But it is only useful if the software can use the full 1680x1050 screen. For word processing this means you can get two full pages (at 100% without the margin) on the display at the same time.

It is GREAT for word, excel, photoshop, etc. but some older software (and lots of games) do not recognize the additional pixels, usually they will just run the application in a window or automatically change the resolution of the display. So the software will run but you lose the whole advantage of the larger display.

Heck yea. I went from 19" to 22" and I like the little difference. Now the trick is to shop around for the specials.
