Show them how everthing has a combustion temperature and doesn't need an actual flame to catch on fire. Put a bunch of flamable items in an oven with a thermometer. Keep raising the temperature and record at what temperature various items ignite. I don't know off hand, but cloth and paper and wood have different combution temps. Be carefull. Test it by yourself first, so you don't look dumb. Please have a fire extinguisher handy. Put the items in separate pyrex glass containers. I suppose you could use hot plates instead of an oven.
