We have white algae at the bottom of our cold water fish tank that looks like old fish food but isnt. It has also attatched itself to the plants and looks really nasty!! can any one tell me what it is and how to prevent it please. The water is changed as per instructions and we have a filter. Help please!! Thank you

it's not algae it's fungus! you need to clean out the tank so use a gravel syphon when doing the water change to remove it. I would suspect that you are over-feeding your fish! Don't go by the instructions on the food as it is usually far too much as any experienced fishkeeper will tell you. Once a day and only as much as the fish will eat in 2 minutes is an adequate amount. I only feed 5 days a week and I've kept fish over 40 years!

Those are just fungus on something in your tank (leftover food or even dead fishes), they are not harmful in itself but rather unsightly. You just need to use to hose to suck them out when you do your next water change. Nothing to worry about unless your whole tank is over run with it :) if thats the case, you'll have to seriously do some house cleaning for your tank.

It could be that your over feeding your fish, or you have a fungus in your aquarium. I would do a fungus treatment now just to make sure. Don't forget to take the filters out when you're doing this.

Its fungus syphon up as much as possible its caused by the food going to waste cut down their food a bit

the white algae is left over food,ur putting too much food in.a few drops once a day is enough,try this and u should see a difference
