In Socialism the Government controls the society and everything about it. Our Democracy still has individual freedoms left in it. Taxation is a huge part of Socialism. The Government needs all the money for all of the governmental run programs. Democracy puts the responsibility on the individual. It has safety nets to help the ones who are down on their luck, but, the individual needs to be responsible for himself to grow and be successful.

In a Democratic capitalist society you have some 'real 'choice at election time (and can even stand for election yourself) and you are allowed to keep at least some of your wealth (and there is something you can spend it on).

In a Socialist state there is only one Party, you can only stand for election if you are a member of the Party (and are nominated to stand), everything is owned by the State and there is nothing to spend your money on anyway ...
