Have a massive fear of needles.

They send me into a massive panic. I hyperventilate, get dizzy & feel really sick.

So will the phlebotomist be able to keep me calm ?

Try not to think about what is going to happen. Don't look at the needle, bring someone in with you (if the lab will allow you too) to hold your hand, talk to the person who you brought with you or to the lab tech, but you have to keep the conversation going, let the tech know you have a fear of needles, also if you are feeling sick let the tech know so they can give you some smelling salts, alcohol, or ammonia to smell so you do not faint. you should do well also make sure you drink lots of water it can help to take out your blood. these are all the things that i would do with one of my patients (I am a phlebotomist). good luck and you should do fine.

A good one will. This is so common, you wouldn't believe it. Have you ever tried relaxation breathing? Wearing headphones and listening to music to relax you? If you are rolling your eyes at these suggestions, is it to the point where you need to take an anti anxiety med and have someone else drive you? I'm not saying you should be drugged, but if your anxiety is severe, it may be an option. I feel for you. Good luck!
