That's a good question. I guess that their other senses are featured more prominently in their dreams although I am sure that the brain, as powerful as it is, is able to create a visual interpretation of the world that they can 'see' in their dreams and probably when they are awake aswell.

Very interesting question! I have often wondered about this and spoke to a blind person who said that in their dreams they had feelings just as when awake. The senses that they had while awake were still the same as when asleep. Hearing, touching, tasting and smelling don't go away while a sighted person dreams and they sleep with their eyes closed so there is no difference while asleep.

As a 8+ year old I once asked my grandmother this very same question (she was in her late 50's at the time - and suffered from cataracts). At the time I didn't quite understand what she meant by her answer.
But as I grew older - it dawned on me what she meant when she said that blindness enables her to see the light even when other people are left completely in the dark.
I guess the point she was making was the fact that even with vision people rarely 'see the woods for the trees'. Or appreciate what they truly have in front of them until it's taken away from them.
I guess her lack of vision allowed her to view certain aspects of life far more clearly.

they dream up images from their memories and their subconscious manipulates what they do remember changing things here and there using their imaginations to create all different scenarios ... just like people who have their sight, blind peoples dreams have meaning too. they are just a little harder to understand because of the lack of research etc.

What i THINK you are trying to say is how can a blind person dream when they have never been able to see therefor have no images in there mind of the world.

They have their own worlds. Their other senses are so good that they are nearly like normal people, like all of us. And you don't really need sight to dream, blind too have dreams and ambitions and they certainly and for sure go after them....... :-)

I think I remember studying this. If they lost vision then they still have images, but if they never had vision (or went blind at an early age) then it's through other senses. At least, I think that's what I learnt. . .
