If you are overweight to begin with, then don't worry. If an expectant mother is not overweight, normal weight gain is in the 25-35 pound range. If she is overweight, normal weight gain is in the 10-15 pound range. Your number one concern should be eating healthy for your child . . . fruits and veggies, taking your prenatal vitamins, etc. Everyone gains/loses weight differently. Your body is using what it has. You only need to eat 300 calories more a day to sustain a healthy pregnancy. I only gained 10 pounds when I was pregnant, I am definitely not overweight. My baby weighed 6 pounds 10 oz . . .

Hi,
actually what doctors are saying now about how much a woman should gain during pregnancy is a bunch of bull. Most women who are pregnant with thier first baby, tend to gain weight alot more than someone who has already had a baby. I know some people who gained 62 pounds, 54 pounds, and 63 pounds and all were conisdered "normal weights". I'm 5 1/2 months and have gained only about 16 pounds and im considered to be "overweight", but im not flabby or anything, so im no worrying about how much weight i put on. As long as the baby is healthy and fine, and u eat right, dont worry about the pounds. Like i said, i think its bull crap.

An "average" sized woman would gain 25 to 30 pounds. However, overweight women gain less. I was significantly overweight when I got pregnant, and with eating better and exercising, I lost weight at the beginning of my pregnancy (totally ok with doc) and overall I ended up gaining only five pounds (just over 2kg). My baby was just over 8 pounds, and the day after he was born I had lost 13 pounds. Don't worry about it, just eat healthily and exercise.

It depends on how much overweight you are. Weight gain can be anywhere from 15 to 45lbs depending on you current weight and whether your carrying multiples or not. I would listen to the doctor and if don't trust them get a second opinion from another doctor.
No matter what you weigh prior to pregnancy you must gain weight

Nothing to worry about. US doctors usually recommend gaining less if you are overweight before getting pregnant.
When I was pregnant with my first child (and I was also overweight before), I only gained 1 lb in first 5 months, then 11 lbs in my 6th month!
Everyone is different. Eat right & keep getting whatever prenatal care is available. Even if some conventional wisdom is different there, they can at least monitor the baby's growth.

I have been sick with my last two pregnancies and each time have lost over 15 pounds before delivery. My son came out 7 1/2 pounds and very healthy and this pregnancy I have been having problems with preterm labor. The doctor says the baby looks really healthy though. As long as you are not dieting you should be fine. Make sure you take your vitamins and drink lots of water and your body will take care of the rest.
