Excellent question. Because, unfortunately and absurdly, many people DO care what celebrities do and think. This is very disturbing, but merely one of the many signs of a shallow and ignorant populace. I totally agree with you; celebrities should shut up and sit down. I'm particularly disturbed by the trend in the last few years: Celebrity news has become part of "regular" news rather than just entertainment news, where it belongs.

It seems that I am in good company in this question, as I agree with you and most of the answers!
My belief is that celebrities start feeling their sense of "liberal guilt", and have so much but don't know how to make up for it! When they spew out their ignorant views on a great many subjects, I actually have a very similar thought to yours: "Shut your face you friggin' puppets! You get paid to act out somebody else's vision. Nobody cares what your thoughts are, so go do and say something that somebody else wrote down for you!"
There are very few exceptions to that.

some people think that seeing a celebrity with a view on the world or in politics makes it more important...like a celebrity is a higher then everyone in this world, which to me is stupid cause a celebrity is just like you and me and everyone has their own opinions...they are not any different then us

I actuall choose the gossip, yet even as i imagine about it is is unhappy. I only pay interest to political and authorities topics round election time, although I save up thus far on each and every of the action picture star. gossip a minimum of once a week through leisure Weekly

Because when they actually come out and tell everyone about what they think of the world issues, its pretty rare and special coz what 99% of the celebrities only care about is themselves!!

I suppose there are some dimwits out there who will follow whatever their favorite celeb says....vote for whoever their favorite celeb preaches for....they(the celebs) use their fame in that way to convince weak minded people to support their causes?

They are surrounded by yes men and idiot media journalists who tell them they are important because their movies make money. I suppose if they already have people's attention they might as well say something sensible like "Feed starving people" or "Stop HIV" instead of "I like to eat burritos".

they do it because they have been glorified by the public for years and their ego takes control of them-if we,the public watched their movies and bought their songs only,and had no other contact with them till the next song/movie it would stop
