I mean, the whole thing just doesn't make sense to me.

Why do we always have to choose from a group of politicians? Aren't these the folks commonly equated as being liars and manipulators? Why not choose a president from another arena or walk of life.

Why does it always feel as if we are forced to choose the less of two evils when electing a president? Wouldn't it be great to feel like we were actually choosing between honest, intelligent, God fearing men....who have nothing in their hearts but honesty and good intentions for our nation?

The system has always allowed whomever wanted to run, to run. Presidential candidates need to have the qualifications to run a country. These people are usually only found among politicians. Most politicians also have expertise in another area of life (their profession before politics). That is why it is easier to choose someone that isn't a career politician.

It would be great, in fact ideal, but it isn't likely to happen to find a candidate with all your good qualities mentioned.

Why are some people lifelong actors and actresses when they suck? (Kevin Costner comes to mind LOL)

It's all a matter of how much money you have (to advertise, and of course, to grease a few palms), what circles you run in, your family background, having a good PR staff to write your words for you, the ability to lie with a straight face, and being in the right place at the right time. Other than that, anyone can be President. Or a Hollywood Star. Yeah, right.

We do need to revamp the system, but it will never happen. It's been in place for way too long. Blessings

It's not just the United States, it's the whole world. We are moving towards a planetary civilization no matter how much we kick, scream, and resist. The political systems currently in place, including the US, are based upon national interests only, not that there's anything inherently wrong with nations, but without a vision of the needs and interests of the planet as a whole, we and our elected officials are like the ignorant physician who tries to cure the disease without understanding the underlying cause. We are paying the price for such limited vision now as our climate wreaks revenge for its abuse over the last 50 years. Whether reflected in our political divisions or not, in reality, the earth is one country and humanity its citizens.

The system itself is not the problem it is the people running the two politcal parties. Unfortunately the character of our politicians are highly ambitious people who are interested in 4 things
1-money
2-power
3-themselves
4-more of all of the above
What should be done is the power of the Federal gvernment should be reduced to its constitutional limitations and the powers it took from the states be returned to the states. As Ben franklin said "He that trades his freedom for security will soon find the he is neither safe nor free."

When you call our politicians "liars" and "manipulators", you're really giving them too much credit.

Some are just slacker used-car-salesmen in low-paying government jobs.

It would be nice if we could attract some true American talent, though, wouldn't it? There are some really impressive folks in the business world, teaching in universities, writing books, etc. It's funny how so few of them would ever touch politics (and risk taking a pay cut or losing all credibility).

I guess politicians have to deal with bad citizens as much as good citizens.Sometimes it comes to a point where they become the very people they vowed to fight against. Not for all, I believe there are some politicians who are good but just victims of bad publicity and character assassination.
