ok, so theres gonna be this school trip in about a year and a half to mexico, we have to raise£3,500 for it, and my mum said she would pay aobut£1,00 of it. and then she wants me to get my dad to pay some of it [he lives in thailand] but he thing is, we have to pay a certain amount every month, and i dont think my dad will be able to do that, and get the money to my mum on time, so it wold be coming out of her bank when she has no money in it, and her having to pay loads of money to the bank.also she has to pay loads of money because out car needs a new engine, and they might have to buy a new car, and the dishwashers broken so we need to get it fixed, this computor is going to break soon[coz its old] and my laptops not working properly!
so do you think its worth going on the trip and having NO money for a year and ahalf, and getting a job and not being able to spend the money, or do you think i should drop out of the trip, and be able to have money??
heeeelp please!
thankies
xxxx

Never go anywhere alone. always stay in groups of 4 or more. Do not wear short shorts...except on designated beaches. Do not act smartalec. Never act better than the locals. Never talk down to the locals. Don't flash a lot of money. Always tip using US dollar bills, US coins are worthless to them.

If you are a girl, blond, blue eyed, under 25 yrs old. be very careful. You will be a prime target for kidnapping. Most likely you will never be heard from again. You will be sold as a sex slave.

Currently there are large drug wars going on in Mexico.

Use good judgment and you should have no trouble but remember the rules above and follow them.

if you go, it would be a tough year for you all. You seem really sensible and have worked out the problems in advance and don't want your mum to suffer if your dad can't come up with his share of the money. I think you already know the answer yourself. I wouldn't go. It's only a trip, not worth all the hassle. it also seems very expensive to me. I'd rather have money to spend for the next 18 months because I know that I can still go on family holidays and if I want to go somewhere like Mexico, I'd save up after I leave school and get a job to pay for it. Good luck X

Why do you need 3,500? That's seems a lot for a trip to mexico. I would say don't drop out normally but i think mexico would be a better place to visit when you have left school... it's quite dodgey in parts...especially if you have no money you could end up in a heap of trouble. You need to respect your mum a little more and help her sort some stuff out. She will be worried sick with you in mexico and right now it sounds like she's got enough on her plate.

Tough one.
I have lived in Mexico, and continue to visit down there on a regular basis. I think you would have a lot of fun, especially going with a bunch of your high school friends.
However, If it is going to be a hardship, maybe you should forget it.
Are there any other options?
If you can't come up with all the money, can you get a refund of what you have paid?
Is there anyone else in your life, that could loan/give you the money?

Also, something else to consider:
You are going to need money while you are there, so that you can have extra spending cash, for souvenirs, local food, dancing, bars.(You are supposed to be 18 to legally drink in Mexico, but they will serve anybody with money)

I think you and your mom should save enough money to go to Mexico yourself for just the $1,000 bucks. :)

Save anyway you know how. 3500 is wayyyy to much money for a school trip, not unless you think fundraisers would help with 2500 of it.

Good luck with your choices. Leave dad out of it. He probably can't aford it either and doesn't know how to say "no" to his little girl...just like your mom can't say no either.

Peraphs treat your mom with the trip. You get a job and save your money. 1/2 of your take home pay each week goes into a 'kitty" just for a trip to Mexico or wherever you'd like to go.

If you have a brother...either make plans for him to go too, he gets a job, mowing grass or working at a store...or see if auntie can take care of him for a few days when you and your mom go away on that trip.

Good luck with whatever you decision.

The real fun of this particular trip is traveling with a group of kids. I'm sure there are countries closer to home that are more fun and less expensive to visit. I have lived in both Mexico and Spain and would choose Spain anytime. All the European and UK countries have a lot more to offer than Mexico does. Plan a trip with friends, closer to home, less expensive, and skip Mexico.

well mexico is a nice trip. but as you said, if there is not going to be any money for all the family -> then its not worth it. It is better to just save the money and enjoy mexico at a later date.

Family first, Mexico will still be there, but your mommies happiness is way more important than a week on a beach.
