how to pronounce the word "tests"?

my problem is how to deal with the consonants "s", "t", "s" at the end.

would the answer be s, and then t, and then s separately,
s, short stop, and then s, but without the t pronounced,
or is it s, and then have the t and s joined together into one ?

The first part of it, "Te--" would be vocalized, with a short "e", almost like "uh" but not so exaggerated. The "sts" part of the word is not vocalized, but one way that the consonants could be pronounced would be if you place your tongue so that either side of the tongue is held still by your teeth. Then, breathe outward sharply, through the space in your front teeth, to create the "ssss". The "t" is not so much pronounced, as stressed by a quick sharp breath after the initial "sss". This will be heard as plural, since the singular "test" has a short stop with the "t" on the end.

"Teh--st--s"

"Lets" does work in a similar way, with the "ts" unvocalized.

It is your third option that sounds closest to me. The t and s get combined in both 'tests' and 'lets'. Tes-ts, Le-ts.
